Project Objectives

The role of this project is to develop and implement innovative solutions based on fuel cell technology for ships, in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and promote more sustainable and energy-efficient navigation. By integrating fuel cells into ships’ propulsion and energy systems, the project aims to demonstrate the technological and economic feasibility of this solution, thus contributing to the transition to shipping with low environmental impact. This project will assess the latest technologies in green propulsion to facilitate the green transition, with a specific focus on hydrogen fuel for specific types of ships operating in Nordic and Romanian seas.

Cell prototypes

The activities will include training, capacity building, awareness-raising, networking, exchange, sharing, and transfer of knowledge, technology, experience, and practices, leading to the development and testing of fuel cell prototypes adapted for use in maritime conditions.

Reduction of CO2 gas emissions

demonstrating significant reductions in CO2 and other pollutant gas emissions compared to traditional propulsion solutions.

Cost-effectiveness

Assessing the costs associated with fuel cell deployment and determining long-term cost-effectiveness for maritime operators, promoting project results to the shipping industry and decision makers to facilitate widespread adoption of technology.
